Ghanaian goalkeeper who keeps the post for Accra Hearts of Oak SC, Benjamin Asare says it’s a big motivation to have Black Stars technical team watch him inspire his outfit to victory over bitter rivals Asante Kotoko SC on Sunday.

The Black Stars shot-stopper was in post and enjoyed full throttle of duration ensuring his side amass a 1-0 win over rivals at the Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

First half goal from Baba Adamu made the difference of the game, with Benjamin Asare putting up splendid performance to clinch the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. Making some decisive saves during the encounter was enough to hand all points to Accra Hearts of Oak SC.

Speaking after the game, Asare disclosed that it’s a privilege and a motivation to have the technical team of Black Stars and Ghana Football Association continue to monitor his performance.

He’s elated and poised to do more.

“Oh, sure, it’s a big motivation because they are watching us closely. My dream is to play for the national team, and I believe my performance today was good. I hope they continue to monitor me and see what I can do. I want to thank the GFA officials for coming to watch this match. It makes the game more exciting.

“I also want to thank the fans—both Kotoko and Hearts of Oak fans—for coming out in their numbers. We don’t often see such a large crowd for league matches, but today, they really showed up, especially for the second round”

“I’m very grateful to everyone.”

The 33-year old was an integral member of the Black Stars team that handed Ghana a qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup and is in contention for a spot in the final squad for the tournament scheduled for June 2026.
