Former Ghana national football team winger Yaw Yeboah has been handed a lifetime ban from Major League Soccer after an investigation found he violated the league’s gambling rules.
According to MLS, Yeboah placed extensive bets on football matches during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, including wagers on games involving his own team at the time.
The investigation also revealed that the Ghanaian winger placed a bet on teammate Derrick Jones to receive a yellow card in an October 19, 2024 match — an incident that reportedly occurred during the game.
MLS rules strictly prohibit players and club officials from betting on football matches, particularly those involving their own teams, due to concerns about match integrity.
Yeboah, who previously featured in the league before moving abroad, currently plays club football in China with Qingdao Hainiu FC.
The lifetime ban means the 27-year-old is permanently barred from participating in MLS activities, marking one of the most severe disciplinary actions taken by the league for gambling-related offenses.
