Head coach of the Ghana national football team, Otto Addo, has called for a strong reaction from his players ahead of their international friendly against Germany national football team following a heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria national football team.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Addo highlighted key areas his team must improve, insisting the scoreline did not fully reflect the balance of play.
“I think we were quite stable in the first half. The statistics may not show it, but we had situations where we broke through. If we were a bit smarter in those moments, the game could have turned differently—maybe 1-1 or even 1-0 for us,” he explained.
Despite acknowledging individual mistakes, including a costly handball, the coach expressed concern over the team’s mentality after conceding.
“What I didn’t like was our body language and mentality afterwards. At 2-0, the game is not lost—we can still come back. But I didn’t see that reaction, and that’s something we have to address,” Addo said.
He also pointed to defensive transitions as a major weakness, warning that Ghana must improve quickly against a strong German side.
“When we’re not organised, we have big problems. We must be quicker in defensive transitions. Germany are very good in offensive transitions, so we have to be much, much better,” he added.
On bouncing back from the defeat, Addo described the loss as part of a learning curve for the squad.
“It’s a learning process—how we deal with situations when we’re behind. We have to do better,” he noted.
The Black Stars will face Germany at the MHP Arena, with kickoff scheduled for 18:45 GMT, as they aim to restore confidence and sharpen their performance.
