President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Kwabena Yeboah, has revealed that Otto Addo could be relieved of his duties as head coach of the Black Stars after tonight’s game against Germany.
Speaking to ghanasportspage, revered journalist disclosed that there is growing pressure within management circles to part ways with the coach, regardless of the outcome of the match.
“The popular view is that we should get rid of Otto, and some members of management have argued that regardless of what happens in tonight’s game… they cannot see him leading us to any successful outcome,” he said.
The astute broadcaster further hinted that even a positive result may not guarantee Addo’s job security, as discussions about his future appear to have intensified behind the scenes.
“Even if he wins today, they may still get rid of him,” Yeboah added, suggesting that dissatisfaction with the team’s direction runs deeper than recent results.
The SWAG president also revealed that he had direct interaction with the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, regarding the situation.
“I picked intel that he was going to announce to the team that they should get rid of Otto… but he told me he didn’t think it was right to take that decision here in Germany,” he explained.
Despite uncertainty over the final decision, Kwabena Yeboah believes the team’s performance against Germany could heavily influence the timing of any potential action.
“A horrible performance, I do not think management will wait… before his firing is announced tonight. If the team plays very well, they may delay that decision and weigh their options,” he noted.
While emphasizing that no official decision has been confirmed, he admitted he would not be surprised if Addo is dismissed after the match, reflecting the growing tension surrounding the Black Stars camp.
Black Stars, who have lost their last three friendlies, will face Germany in Stuttgart at 18:45 kickoff time.
