Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice president, Fred Pappoe has urged the local football association to make proper enquiry and better assessment in naming who succeeds Otto Addo as Ghana’s head coach.
The Association following Black Stars back-to-back defeat in the March international break to Austria and Germany, immediately sacked Otto Addo as Ghana’s gaffer. With Otto’s second stint short of nothing but poor performance, having lost 9 matches and drawn 5 in 22 matches was shown the exit door.
He succeeded Chris Houghton in February 2024 but left his position after Ghana experienced an abysmal campaign in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar only to return in 2024.
Under the stewardship of Kurt Okraku- GFA President, since 2019 appointed six coaches including James Kwasi Appiah and Milovan Rejevac yet nothing to show for.
All this, brings Ghana to a rough road hence Fred Pappoe, expecting the Ghana Football Association settling on a gaffer who knows and understand Ghana’s team and culture to hit the ground running without wasting time.
Fred is hoping, the Association comes up with a better replacement to lead Ghana to the Mundial.
“At this stage, am not gonna mention names of coaches rather make people aware, you don’t just get up and go in for a coach. We must look at a lot of factors, especially this particular moment in time”
“If we want to go for a coach, we have to go for someone who can hit the ground running; someone who knows our football culture.”— the former Veep, Fred Pappoe said.
He added that; “I’m happy the Speaker of Parliament showed so much depth and understanding of coaching.”
“We hope the GFA will come up with a good replacement to help the Black Stars achieve its objectives.”
The four-time Africa champions are preparing to mark their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
Ghana will be expecting to exhibit high level of performance to secure qualification from Group L.
They will face Panama in their opening fixture on June 17. A heavyweight encounter with England on June 23, before concluding their group-stage campaign against Croatia on June 27.
