Ghana football legend Osei Kofi has thrown his support behind a possible return of Kwesi Appiah as head coach of the Ghana national football team, insisting a local coach remains the best fit for the job.
Speaking amid discussions over the next Black Stars coach, Osei Kofi emphasized Ghana’s historical success under indigenous managers.
“All the AFCON titles we have won were under local coaches. No foreign coach has won a trophy with Ghana,” he stated.
The former forward made it clear he is not in favor of appointing a foreign coach at this stage, arguing that such a move would require time for adaptation.
“If we bring a white coach, the person will have to first come and understudy, but for Kwesi Appiah, he knows our brand of football already,” he added.
Osei Kofi believes Appiah’s familiarity with Ghanaian football culture, players, and expectations gives him a significant advantage, especially at a time when the team is seeking stability and quick results.
“It will help Ghana if we go and beg him to come back,” he stressed.
His comments are likely to intensify the ongoing debate about whether the Black Stars should return to a local coach or continue exploring foreign technical options following recent changes in the team’s leadership.
