Asante Kotoko SC head coach, Prince Owusu following their home defeat to FC Samertex 1996 has given up on their chase for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier league title.
The Porcupine Warriors despite stopping play due to heavy down pour of rain on Monday evening with scores goalless, woke up to lose 2-1 on Tuesday morning at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Albert Amoah scored the only consolation goal after the visitors had netted twice in the second half.
The defeat though still leaves the Ghanaian giants amongst the top four but can not challenge for the title.
Coach Prince Owusu admit the league is already out of their reach despite acknowledging the possibilities in the game of football with 6 matches to end season.
When asked after Samertex game: Is the league already out of reach?
Coach Prince Owusu said: “It looks like that, but I don’t know this is football. Right now, when I look at the points and where we are, it doesn’t look good.”
Kotoko sits 4th on the log with 43 points, 8 points behind league leader’s Bibiani GoldStars FC.
Their 2-1 home lost to the Timber Giants marked the first time in the Premier League that the club has lost with Dari Aziz Haruna starting in goal.
Prior to this game, Kotoko were unbeaten in seven matches with Dari in goal, recording three wins and four draws.
