The Black Starlets of Ghana will today take on Algeria in the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations U-17 Group D opener. The youth tournament begun on Wednesday with host country Morocco held to a 1-1 draw by Tunisia.
With Ghana scheduled for today Thursday, head coach Prosper Nartey Ogum has engaged the press and expressed their opener will be a tight and tactical against Algeria.
Hence, urged his players to approach the game with discipline and focus.
Ogum praised the structure and balance of the Algerian side while stressing that his team must be efficient in key moments to secure a positive result.
“We are expecting a very competitive and tactical game. Algeria are a good side with strong organisation both defensively and offensively. Opening matches are always difficult because every team wants to start well,” he told CAFOnline.
He added that; “We must remain disciplined, focused and clinical when opportunities come. I believe it will be a good contest between two strong teams.”
Ghana are targeting a strong start to their campaign as they seek to progress from a demanding Group D, which also includes Senegal and South Africa.
The Black Starlets will also be aiming to secure qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup later this year.
Meanwhile, the encounter against Algeria is slated to kickoff 4:00 pm Ghana time.
