The Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams believe Andre Ayew should be considered for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite not in best of form.
The former Ghana captain and FIFA U-20 World Cup winner in the last two year struggled to light up in his club football, hence failed to secure Ghana to the Black Stars. Ending his stint with Le Havre and later joining Dutch club NAC Breda has still not shown any better form merit of national team assignment.
Nonetheless, the Ghanaian law-maker wants the attacker shortlisted for the Mundial, which will mark his four appearance at the tournament.
Speaking on Adom TV sports show Fire For Fire, Hon. Kofi Adams was asked whether Andre Ayew should be included in Ghana’s squad to the 23rd FIFA World Cup edition and he responded in the affirmative.
Disclosing that, with the caliber of Ayew he should make it to the tournament however, has no idea the plans of the head coach Carlos Queiroz.
“I don’t think it is a bad idea if Andre Ayew is named in the World Cup squad. I don’t know the coach’s plan or strategy, but if I were the coach and I had a player with the calibre of Andre Ayew, why not?” the Buem MP said.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L for the tournament, where they will face England, Croatia and Panama. Their campaign begins on June 17 against Panama, before matches against England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
The Black Stars ahead of the global showpiece, step up preparations with friendly matches against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.
