Assistant coach Desmond Offei will take charge of the Black Stars for Friday’s international friendly against Mexico in Puebla following the absence of head coach Carlos Queiroz due to personal reasons.
Offei, who has overseen the team’s preparations since their arrival in Mexico, will be responsible for leading Ghana from the touchline as the Black Stars continue their build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The former Ghana U-20 coach will be supported by goalkeepers’ trainer Daniel Gaspar and set-piece coach/video analyst Gregory De Grauwe.
The friendly presents an important opportunity for the technical team to assess players and fine-tune preparations ahead of the World Cup, where Ghana have been drawn in a challenging group alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
Offei’s temporary promotion to the lead role also highlights the confidence the technical setup has in the young coach, who has played a key role in Ghana’s recent youth and senior national team projects.
Friday’s encounter against Mexico is expected to provide a valuable test for the Black Stars as they continue preparations for football’s biggest stage.
