Former Black Stars head coach C.K. Akonnor has guided Gor Mahia to a record-extending 22nd Kenyan Premier League title with two matches still to play.
The championship was confirmed after closest challengers AFC Leopards suffered a 2-1 defeat to APS Bomet, leaving Gor Mahia uncatchable at the top of the table on 68 points.
Akonnor, who took charge of the Kenyan giants alongside his Ghanaian backroom staff, has overseen an impressive campaign that saw Gor Mahia dominate the league and reclaim their status as Kenya’s premier football club.
With AFC Leopards stranded on 64 points after playing a game more, Gor Mahia’s lead is now insurmountable, handing the club another league crown before the end of the season.
The achievement marks a significant milestone for Akonnor, who continues to enhance his coaching credentials abroad after previous stints with the Black Stars, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
Gor Mahia’s latest triumph further cements their position as the most successful club in Kenyan football history, with their 22nd league title extending their own national record.
For Akonnor and his Ghanaian technical team, the title represents a major success story and another example of Ghanaian coaches making an impact on the African football scene.
