Former Black Stars and Hearts of Oak defender Dan Quaye has expressed confidence in Ghana’s chances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging supporters to remain patient with the national team.
Speaking to GhanaSportsPage.com, Quaye acknowledged the efforts being made behind the scenes by the Ghana Football Association and team management, insisting that the responsibility now lies with the players to deliver on the pitch.
“The management and the leaders are doing their part. It’s up to the players to do theirs,” Quaye said.
The former defender compared the current generation to his era, noting that the Black Stars once enjoyed widespread support from Ghanaians and believes the current squad can earn that same admiration through improved performances.
“The whole Ghana loved us during our time, but why are these guys not getting the same thing? However, Ghanaians should be patient with them,” he added.
Quaye also highlighted injuries as a major factor that has disrupted the team’s progress in recent years and expressed hope that Ghana will head to the World Cup with a fully fit squad.
“I hope that we will go to the World Cup with no injuries. Injuries have really affected the team,” he stated.
Despite the criticism and challenges surrounding the Black Stars, Quaye remains optimistic that the upcoming tournament could mark a turning point for the four-time African champions.
“I am certain that things will change at this World Cup,” he said.
Ghana are preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup under new head coach Carlos Queiroz and will face Panama, England, and Croatia in Group C as they seek to make a strong impact on football’s biggest stage.
