Ghanaian goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has expressed deep gratitude and pride after earning a call-up to Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, revealing this is a life-changing honour and an opportunity he intends to embrace with full commitment.

The Hearts of Oak SC shot-stopper has earned a spot amongst the three goalkeepers set to compete for the number slot at the Mundial for Ghana. Following, his standout performers for his club and six appearance for the Black Stars during the World Cup qualifier and AFCON qualifiers included in the squad.

He will be making his first appearance at the global showpiece, competing Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Francis Anang for game time.

Asare took to TikTok to expressed his readiness and commitment, shortly after the final 26-man squad was confirmed.

“With the deepest humility and gratitude, I thank God and everyone who made this journey possible. To be given the opportunity to represent Ghana on football’s greatest stage is an honour beyond words.”

“I wear this badge with pride, and I pledge to give everything I have, every save, every drop of sweat, and every breath, for my motherland. For Ghana. For the Black Star. For the dream of a nation. I pledge.”

His selection makes him the only locally based player in the Black Stars squad heading into the tournament.

The former Accra Great Olympics gloves man, determination now places him at the centre of competition for the starting role, with strong contenders also named in the squad.

However, Asare is widely seen as a serious option for the number one position following his consistent performances at club level and his previous recognition under former head coach Otto Addo, who had reportedly viewed him as a leading candidate in the national team setup.
