Ghana forward Brandon Thomas-Asante says the Black Stars are embracing their underdog status ahead of Tuesday’s crucial FIFA World Cup Group L encounter against England.

The Coventry City striker insisted the team remains fully confident in its abilities regardless of outside opinions, stressing that the players are focused solely on their mission at the tournament.

“Everything to the best ability, it’s very much a case of — we back ourselves, we believe in ourselves. Whether people on the outside doubt us, believe us, or anything — that’s not what we think about. We think about why we’re here. We’re on a mission,” Thomas-Asante said.

The forward believes that mindset has removed any pressure from the squad as they prepare for one of the biggest matches of their campaign.

“That means there’s no pressure. It’s even less pressure for us,” he explained.

Thomas-Asante acknowledged the support of Ghanaian fans but noted that being overlooked by some observers could work in the Black Stars’ favour.

“We know our fans believe, but we know that some people might want to overlook us. We use that to our advantage — preparing properly and believing that we can go and do something,” he added.

Ghana head into the clash level on three points with England after edging Panama 1-0 in their opening match, while the Three Lions defeated Croatia 4-2.

With both sides locked on three points, Tuesday’s showdown at Boston Stadium in Foxborough could prove decisive in the race for top spot in Group L and a place in the knockout stage. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM local time.
