Ghana midfielder Kwesi Sibo has revealed that Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz sensed England were vulnerable during their FIFA World Cup Group L clash and urged his players to go for victory in the second half.
The Black Stars held the Three Lions to a goalless draw in Foxborough, a result that keeps Ghana firmly in contention for a place in the knockout stage.
According to Sibo, Queiroz implored them to aim for a win at halftime.
“At half time, the coach told us that England were nervous and we should push for a win,” Sibo said after the match.
Ghana grew into the contest after the break and created some promising moments, with the team believing they could claim all three points against the 1966 world champions.
The Black Stars were particularly aggrieved by a controversial incident involving England defender Ezri Konsa and Ghana forward Prince Adu Kwabena, with Queiroz later criticizing the VAR officials for failing to review the challenge.
Despite the frustration, Ghana earned a valuable point against one of the tournament favourites and remain unbeaten after opening their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama.
The result leaves the Black Stars well placed heading into their final Group L encounter against Croatia as they continue their pursuit of a place in the Round of 32.
