Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Gideon Fosu, has confirmed that the Football Association is in talks to appoint the next head coach of the Black Stars.
The senior national team is currently without a substantive head coach after Carlos Queiroz’s short deal expired. The veteran Portuguese trainer signed a four-month deal ahead of the 2026 World Cup in April, replacing Otto Addo, who was sacked in March.
Talks to extend the deal of the 73-year-old have broken down due to high demands. Speaking to Citi Sports, Gideon Fosu confirmed that negotiations are ongoing to settle on a new head coach but insisted the Black Stars will have a coach in place before their next competitive fixtures.
“I think what’s there for Ghanaians to know is that we’ll definitely play Senegal and we have to play the qualifiers, right? What I can say on authority is that we are definitely going to have a coach who is in charge of the team,” he said.
“We are still talking, we are still negotiating. I am sure that at the right time, the president of the FA will announce who the next coach of the Black Stars will be,” Fosu added.
Carlos Queiroz earned $80,000 a month as Black Stars coach. Meanwhile, the Black Stars are expected to return to competitive action in September when they begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Ghana missed the previous edition of the tournament in Morocco and have been drawn in Group C for the next qualifiers alongside West African rivals Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia and Somalia.
