The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has questioned the Ghana Football Association on the state of the Colts league in the country.
The President of the Nation spoke about the dead Colts league in Ghana on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, when Nations FC and Medeama SC paid a courtesy visit to him at the Jubilee House following their qualification for CAF inter-club competitions.
Another thing missing from Ghana Football is catching young talents, and we used to have a very good Colts league; I don’t know what happened to it. And so the FA, what happened to the Colts league? He questioned the GFA
Are you going to revisit the Colts’ league? He asked the FA members who were at the meeting. “Yes, we have a young grassroots league”, an FA member replied.
So call it a Colts league so we all can sponsor it. Maybe if there’s a Colts team or league in my constituency or my hometown, I also can go there to give them something small. Mahama replied.
Three clubs, Nations FC, Medeama SC and Ampem Darkoa Ladies, were invited to the seat of government following their success in the 2025- 26 Ghanaian football season and their qualification to represent the country in continental competitions.
Medeama presented the Ghana Premier League trophy after being crowned champions, while Nations FC presented the MTN FA Cup trophy following their historic triumph in the domestic cup competition.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies are also seeking to build on their domestic success after reaching the final of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
The Jubilee House visit brought together the three domestic champions as Ghana looks to strengthen its presence in African club football.
