Ghana have suffered another major blow ahead of their September-October international assignments as forward Antoine Semenyo has withdrawn from the Black Stars squad.
The Manchester City forward has been ruled out after suffering a swollen ankle, ending hopes that he would be available for Ghana’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Côte d’Ivoire.
Semenyo has enjoyed a scintillating start to the season and has emerged as one of Ghana’s key attacking options. His absence therefore represents another setback for head coach Carlos Queiroz, who is already dealing with several withdrawals from his original squad.
The Black Stars have also been without key players including Mohammed Kudus and Thomas Partey, adding further pressure to Queiroz as he prepares his team for a demanding international window.
Ghana will begin their AFCON qualifying campaign with a difficult away trip to Bouaké, where they will face a high-flying Côte d’Ivoire side before returning home to take on The Gambia.
