Ghana Black Meteors head coach Desmond Ofei has called up 32 selected players across the country to resume camping on Monday, October 12, at the Ghana National Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram as preparations intensify for next month’s CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tie against Libya.
A total of 32 players are expected to report to camp as head coach Desmond Ofei begins preparations for the two-legged encounter, scheduled for the November 9–17 international window. The squad will be trimmed as preparations progress, while six foreign-based players are expected to join ahead of the qualifiers.
The technical team intends to keep the locally based players in camp until the matches, although temporary releases may be granted every week at the request of their clubs to allow them to feature in the Ghana league matches
Ghana will travel to Libya for the first leg before hosting the return fixture, with victory on aggregate earning the Black Meteors a place in the final qualifying round against either Equatorial Guinea U-23 or Niger U-23.
The three-round qualification campaign will determine the seven nations that join hosts Egypt at the eight-team U-23 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
A successful campaign would strengthen the Black Meteors’ hopes of ending the country’s long absence from the men’s Olympic football tournament, where Ghana last featured at the 2004 Athens Games.
