Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has revealed that the country’s 20 national teams share one bus, purchased by the association in 2008, highlighting the logistical challenges facing football development.
Speaking before Parliament’s Select Committee on Youth and Sports on Wednesday, November 4, he disclosed that the bus, which serves both the Black Stars and Black Queens as well as the other national teams, has broken down.
“Your Black Stars, your Black Queens, and 18 other national teams that we do have, have access to one bus that was purchased by the FA in the year 2008. 20 national teams using one bus,” he told the committee.
He added that the breakdown of the bus forced the GFA to make alternative arrangements during the last international window which took place from September 21 to October 6.
“Now the bus is broken, so during the last international window, the FA had to rent a bus,” he said. Okraku described the situation as one of the fundamental challenges that must be addressed if Ghana is to build a sustainable football system.
“So if we want to create a sustained football ecosystem, these are the fundamentals. These are the reasons why we’ve not had a sustained and continuous victorious stories over generations. These are the hard truths,” he added.
