The National Division One League (NDOL) will for the first time in history, see the three zonal winners receive a prize money, as well as grocery shopping vouchers and additional amounts for preparation to the premier league division.
This initiative under the regenerated Ghana Football Association (GFA), is expected to heighten the competitive nature of the second tier league and breed professionalism in the clubs’ approach to all games.
According to the GFA, all three zonal winners of the 2020/2021 Division One League (DOL) would each receive GHc50,000 as prize money. The second-place team in each of the three Zones would also walk home with an amount of GHc30, 000. In addition, the top three teams in each of the Zones would receive GHc5,000 worth of grocery shopping vouchers from our proud partners Melcom Ghana.
Furthermore, each of the three zonal winners would also receive GHc25,000 to prepare for the Ghana Premier League the season after. In all, the winning team of each zone in the 2020/2021 national DOL would receive GHc75,000.
For the first time in Ghana’s second tier competition history, the first placed team would receive 40 gold medals, the second placed team would receive 40 silver medals and the third placed team would receive 40 Bronze medals. These were announced by the GFA President, Kurt E. S Okraku during the official launch of the 2020/21 football season on Thursday, November 5 in Accra.
Turning the attention to the inter-club competition for the sole ticket for promotion to the elite division, the keen competition churned out Skyy FC in the 2019/2020 truncated season of the Division One zone two league paints a picture of what the new season promises.
In zone two, giants like Sekondi Hasaacas, Bibiani Gold Stars, Wassaman FC, Venomous Vipers were all given a run for their money by the newbies Skyy FC, who were leading the zone two league table with 28 points in 13 matches before the league’s eventual cancellation due to outbreak of thecovid-19 pandemic.
The battle for superiority in the Sekondi Takoradi metropolis between former premier league winners, Sekondi Hasaacas and Skyy FC promises to be keener going into the new season, following the introduction of the juicy prize money package.
On the other hand, experienced clubs like Kumasi based Asokwa Deportivo, Sefwi based Bibiani Gold Stars led by coch Kobina Amissah, New Edubiase United and Nzema Kotoko are all expected to prove their worth as the 2020/2021 DOL officially kicks off on December 3, 2020.
