Ghana’s current most influential midfielder in Europe, Thomas Teye Partey has been officially ruled out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan, the GFA has confirmed.
The former Athletico Madrid midfield controller picked what earlier looked like a minor sprain in his ankle during Sunday’s premier league game against Aston Villa at the Emirate Stadium, and was eventually replaced by former Real Madrid star Daniel Ceballos.
His employers, Arsenal, have now confirmed the injury to be a little serious than earlier thought, and that Partey’s situation requires a treatment in London. The player will therefore not be available to coach CK Akonnor for selection in the matches against Sudan. He has been ruled out of both legs; the first leg to take place on Thursday, November 12 in Cape Coast, Ghana, and the reverse fixture in Khartoun three days later.
The Black Stars deputy skipper was earlier included in the CK Akonnors initial 23-man squad called up for the two international assignments, but the former Ghana skipper will have to make do with the squad currently at his disposal without the services of the Arsenal midfielder.
The match between Ghana and Sudan has been scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, November 12 at the Cape Coast sports stadium at 16:00 GMT.
