RE: RELOCATION OF HOME VENUE-GHANA PREMIER LEAGUE
Reference is made to your letter no. GFA/PLC/AK/VOL.161 dated December 2, 2020, on the above-mentioned subject, contents of which are very well noted.
We wish to respond to your letter as follows:
- Please take notice that we are at this stage, not a license applicant. The process of applying for a
license and being granted the same has since been fulfilled by the club. All we kindly requested was to
relocate our home venue to a facility that has been approved by the GFA through its First Instance
Body (the Club Licensing Board), deriving its powers from Article 46 of the GFA Statutes and
required to work in accordance with the relevant provisions enshrined in the GFA Club Licensing
Regulations. - The Club Licensing Board (CLIB) of the GFA approved the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium as our
alternative venue for the 2020/2021 Total CAF Champions League, which was subsequently affirmed
by CAF and widely published by the venerable GFA. We remember very well that the CLIB had used
our application to participate in the CAF Champions League as a basis to exempt us from going through
the licensing process all over again for the domestic league. The same methodology was used for
Ashantigold SC. - We do not want to go so much into the technicalities of the licensing process, as it could derail the
GFA’s effort to bring back the love. - However, to request for an “Ownership Agreement” at a stage of our expression of interest to
Relocation to the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium would be a great deviation from the licensing process. - Our request to move to the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium is purely for sporting reasons. Moving to the
Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium would give us bigger leverage in terms of competition and reduce the
congestion at the Accra Sports Stadium. The CLIB does not have to raise concerns before we decide
on which facility we want to use as a home venue. This certainly is not the first time a club has decided to relocate its venue.
