Ghana premier league power house Asante Kotoko have made another step to sign former Nkoranza Warriors striker Kwame Poku to augment the attacking prowess of the club.
The 20-year old promising striker arrived in Ghana from Serbia last Friday, where he had been on trials to seal a deal with an unnamed club but the deal is said to have fallen through. The sensational goal poacher arrived on the invitation of Asante Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu, and is set to complete his move to the Kumasi based club.
Kwame Poku joined Asante Kotoko teach bus from Accra to Kumasi on Monday following the club’s dramatic 2-1 win over arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak on match day six of the ongoing premier league campaign.
Kwme Poku caught the eye of many clubs in the domestic league following his exploits with second tier side Nkoranza Warriors in the Normalization Committee Special Competition where he found the next 10 times, earning a call up to the Ghana national U23 side, the Black Meteors under coach Ibrahim Tanko. He featured for Ghana during the 2019 Africa U23 Cup Nations qualifies, but failed to make the final squad for the tournament proper held in Egypt when Ghana exited in the semi final after losing 3-2 on Penalties to Ivory coast following a 2-2 draw after extra time.
Asante Kotoko prolific striker Sogne Yacouba has had a broken relation with the club, and has failed to renew his contract with the club. Yacouba is likely to part ways with the club sooner than later at the expiration of his contract by April, and the arrival of Kwame Poku, if completed, will serve as an immediate replacement for the Burkinabe international.
