The Ghana senior national female soccer team the Black Queens were held to a 0-0 stalemate by the Harambee Starlets of Kenya in the first leg match of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers in Accra on Friday.
Black Queens failed to take advantage of playing at home to score as they settled for a goalless draw against Kenya at the Accra sports stadium in the first leg of the third round of the qualifiers.
Coach Mercy Tagoe’s Queens began the match pressing harder for a goal, dominating with possession but the Harambee Starlets proved resolute at the back to deny the Ghanaians a goal. The Black Queens came close on several occasions through efforts of Juliet Acheampong, Priscilla Okyere and others, but coach David Ouma’s side proved well composed as the first half ended goalless.
Kenya proved worrying for Ghana after recess but none of the two sides could find the net as the game ended 0-0 ahead of the return leg in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Black Queens have been scheduled to leave Ghana for Kenya on Sunday ahead of the reversed fixture on Tuesday as qualification to the fourth round of the qualifiers on the road to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games gets tougher at the final stages.
