The Stallions of Burkina Faso beat the Black Stars B by a lone goal in Kumasi on Sunday in the first leg of the 2020 CHAN qualifier at the Baba Yara sports stadium.
A stoppage time strike from Yannick Stephanie did the damage against Ghana and the visitors carried the day with a 1-0 victory ahead of the second leg to be played on October 20 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
Coach Maxwell Konadu started the game with a 4-4-2 formation with Hearts of Oak forward Joseph Esso paired with Skipper Shafiu Mumuni, counting on their deadly form in recent matches but the duo failed in front of goal as the entire attackers were caught wasteful, squandering begging changes that came their way.
Ghana has failed to qualify for the last two CHAN tournaments, one of which Ghana was denied qualification by Burkina Faso after playing 2-2 draw in Burkina Faso and losing 2-1 in Kumasi to the Stallions.
Coach Maxwell Konadu is now left with a herculean task of qualifying Ghana to the tournament in Cameroon next year with only the second leg away from home to make amends.
