Abdul Salam Yakubu, campaign member for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential election candidate George Afriyie, has firmly admitted that fellow candidate Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer is the biggest opposition to his favourite George Afriyie in the presidential race of the GFA elections.
Abdul Salam, who is also the president of division one club New Edubiase United and a delegate with voting right, made the admission in an interview with Fox FM on the nationwide Focal Sports show on Tuesday. According to Abdul Salam, all the aspirants for the GFA top seat are potential winners of the elections, who have what it takes to lead Ghana football back to its glory days, but Osei Palmer poses the greatest threat to all other candidates who hope win the presidential seat.
“The election is between [Osei] Palmer and George, that’s how I see it, for that I will say it anywhere, it’s between Palmer and George, they all have the qualities, it’s between George and Palmer”, Abdul Salam admitted.
Abdul Salam stressed, that no one can be underrated when it comes to elections but was however quick to add that his candidate, George Afriyie, who have served as Vice president of the FA under the then Kwasi Nyantakyi administration, stands tall amongst all the candidates, but not ruling out the fact that the major competition is between George and Palmer.
“For elections there is no election in which you can underrate anybody, if we are to vote no one can match George, no, for that, I will say and say it again, Palmer is great, his not bad and the election is also between George and Palmer but George stands tall, in terms of elections no one can match him”, he insisted.
The elections for the GFA president have been slated for Friday, 25th October, 2019 at the GFA Extra-Ordinary Congress to be held in Accra.
