Following the government’s announcement of the return of football in the country on Sunday, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), premier league and Division One League clubs have swiftly jumped into gallant celebrations, demonstrating much delight over the news.
Both premier and and lower division clubs have demonstrated how starving they’ve been since the situational suspension of football by the government since March. In his 17th address to the nation on covid-19 combating measures by the state, President Akufo-Addo announced on Sunday evening that “the Ghana Premier League and the Division One Football league will restart on Friday, 30th October, with a full regime of testing of the players, technical and management staff”. This has, undoubtedly, been the most awaited news by the football clubs.
Few minutes after the announcement, more than half of the 18 premier league clubs all took to their social media handles to celebrate football’s return, same as the division one league clubs. On the premier league side, clubs like Asante Kotoko, Accra Hearts of Oak, Ashantigold SC, Liberty Professionals, Medeama Sporting Club, King Faisal, Dreams FC, Berekum Chelsea etc. all took to their Twitter to react in diverse ways to the glittering news.
The Division One League clubs include Sekondi Hasaacas, Asokwa Deportivo, Tema Youth SC and just to mention few, all took to Twitter to celebrate the news as well.
