Ahead of their CAF Champions League tie against E.S Setif on Sunday, former captain of Asante Kotoko Amos Frimpong has urged the top brass of the club to let the club’s interest reign supreme in all things regarding the running of the club, and not let the club suffer consequences of individual differences among officials of the club.
The former right back made the passionate appeal to the Nana Yaw Amponsah led administration of the club as the club prepares to kick off their 2020/2021 Confederation Cup competition journey against Algerian side Setif on Sunday. This comes as a response to some unhealthy conflict that have ensued between the club and some media houses in the country, especially Kumasi over criticisms of the club’s recent ways of doing things.
Moreover, the 8-member Management of the club, headed by the club CEO, Nana Yaw Amponsah, have endured a rocky relationship of late over some administrative issues. In view of this, the Management of the club held a closed door meeting on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, where it was decided to withdraw from the Confederation Cup competition if the Board does not respond to the Management’s call regarding financial constraints facing the club facing the club as a result of the continental assignment.
Speaking exclusively to ghanasportspage.com on various issues, the former BA United star Amos Frimpong was asked of how he feels as a former captain for the Porcupine Warriors when he hears issues of conflict within the hierarchy of the club. In response, Frimpong opted to advise the club’s officials to put the interest of the club first regardless of everything and fight for victory in the game against E.S Setif on Sunday.
“In all these we all have to be patient with one another”, Amos appealed. “Let us not forget that when we do those things it comes back to hurt the playing body. So I will plead that every conflict should be put aside and know that in everything it is Kotoko first, I will entreat everyone to note that in everything it is Kotoko first, so let’s think about Kotoko in everything we do so that everything that has the tendency to bring division and separation in Asante Kotoko, I will urge everyone to let it go”, he advised.
Amos Frimpong admitted that the match against E.S Setif is a difficult one and urged the club to do everything possible to ensure they secure qualification in Ghana in the first leg before traveling for the second leg in Algeria.
“If someone offends you about Kotoko, note that it’s Kotoko first. The Setif game is a very difficult game for Asante Kotoko, the playing body cannot win that fight alone, so from today to Sunday when the game will the game will come on, let’s all remember Asante Kotoko in prayers when we go on our knees so that the victory we all seek on Sunday, Asante Kotoko can win so we can qualify into the money zone even in Ghana before we go there”, he appealed.
Asante will play against E.S Setif on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at the Accra sports stadium in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the 2020/2021 CAF Confederation Cup.
