Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made the 26-year-old a Ghanaian top target, with Partey available at around £43million due to a release clause in his contract.
With Atletico fuss to keep the Ghana international, they have tabled an offer of a new deal which reports have claimed would double his wages from £65,000 a week to £130,000 a week.
But Arsenal fans were offered excitement last week when Partey’s father Jacob claimed negotiations over a switch to north London at the end of the season have been taken place.
Speaking on Tru FM in Ghana Jacob Partey said that, his son had told him personally that talks have been held between the Gunners and his representatives. “I will be happy if he decides to move to Arsenal. What they are discussing now is how Atletico will release him.”
The player’s agency JJSports quickly branded Jacob Partey’s claims “totally untrue”.
He insists that the conversations have taken place, but that the player’s representatives were trying to cool down talk of a move because they did not want such information out in the public.
