The German Football League (DFL), seem resolute to resume the pending league to finish it off to wade off any further disruptions already caused by COVID-19. It is not the only league that has had to be suspended by the Corona Virus Disease 2019 but they seem hungrier to start again thanks to the way and manner German political authorities managed the pandemic. With a May 6 resumption date in mind, the DFL could be playing the remainder of their games for the season with or without spectators. Though the 36 professional clubs in Germany agree that it would not be the best experience playing football with spectators, it has to be accepted so. The DFL is however indicated that their decision to restart the season in May or otherwise will also largely depend on government’s decision on lockdown and people mingling. That the final decision to or otherwise will not be a decision by the DFL.
Germany as a nation rigorously addressed the spread of COVID-19 and relative to other European nations did well to contain the virus and reduce consequent deaths that have befallen others. The CEO of DFL concluded saying on Thursday, “If we start on 9th May, we are ready. If it is later, we will be ready, too. For us, what is decisive is what the politicians will decide.
