La liga defending champions Barcelona have been handed a major boost in their title defence, with the recovery of star striker Luis Suarez.
The 33-year old Uruguayan forward has been on the sidelines since January after undergoing successful knee surgery back four months ago.
The Catalans could have signed a forward replacement in the absence of the former Liverpool forward, but failed to do so during the window following the quick return to fitness of Ousmane Dembele. However, the later injury of Dembele forced the La liga leaders to make a quick enforcement outside the transfer window when they brought in Leganes’ Danish international, Martin Braithwaite.
Currently, La liga is on a coronavirus enforced suspension, and Suarez has confirmed in an interview with Carnal+, via Marca, that he has begun training again, and will make a return to action with the team when football resumes.
It is worth noting however, that La liga has not set a date for the resumption of the 2019/2020 season, despite dates in May and June having been under consideration. The return of Luis Suarez is could prove to be of a significant advantage to Quique Setien’s side in their La liga title race. Barcelona currently are two points ahead of bitter rivals Real Madrid with 11 games left the end the season.
