The flair
and panache of the MTN FA Cup returns on Sunday in the round of 64 stage, and
the football fans in Cape Coast and its surroundings will be treated with pleasantries
as Swedru based Unistar Academy welcomes Takoradi based Skyy FC for their round
of 64 clash at the Cape Coast sports stadium on Sunday.
Both clubs,
coming from the second-tier division, play in the Division One League zone two
and have lot to settle for.
Skyy FC
coach Malik and his charges are a side with ambitions of qualifying to the top
flight division by the end of the season, but have not been too impressive considering
their results after 8 matches in the league.
FORM GUIDE
AND MATCH FACTS
Unistar
Academy
The home side are coming into the game without
a substantive head coach and this could create a big loophole for the visitors.
Unistar Academy have not recorded results in the Division One zone two league.
The Swedru side have lost five (5) of their last eight (8) league matches, won
one (1) and drawn two (2).
In their last
8 league matches, they have conceded as many as 17 goals and scored 8. Taking
it from the last 5 matches, Unistar have gone without a win, losing three and
drawing two.
Ahead of
their MTN FA Cup Round of 64 clash with Skyy FC, it is worth to note that this
will be the first time the two sides are meeting in the competition, and the best
team will emerge victors on Sunday.
Despite their
unfavourable results recently, Unistar Academy could be a team to beat for Skyy
FC as they come with some exciting talents in their squad. Central defender and
captain of the side Pious Baffour together with right back Jabil Mohammed are
the players to watch in defence.
With goalkeeper
Kingsley Adewokor in posts, the academy boys are also strong in midfield with promising
talents such as 17-year old Prince Ocubua, Ransford Ofori Asante. In terms of
deadball situation, free kick expert Akwasi Adjei is a deadly character to
watch out for. Benjamin Biliham and Godfred Cobbinah are expected to lead the
attack for the academy boys.
To recall, Unistar
Academy were to play this season’s FA Cup preliminary stage match away from
home against one-time champions of the competition, New Edubiase United, but
the home side failed to honour the match and Unistar were legitimately declared
winners of the fixture by the competition organizers. With the walkover, this
will be their first match in the competition this season and will go all out to
fight for the Round of 32 spot at the expense of Skyy FC.

Takoradi
based side are one of the top performing clubs in the Division One zone two
league and are going into the match against Unistar as favourites. This is their
second season as a club as in the history of the MTN FA Cup, having made their
debut in the competion in the 2018/2019 season.
Skyy FC made
their debut in the FA Cup in the preliminary stage last season against Nzema
Kotoko where they lost to the Nzema side on penalties after the game ended 1-1
in regulation time. At preliminary stage of this season’s competition, Skyy FC
made it to the round of 64 after defeating third tier side TTU (Takoradi
Technical University) by 4-0. The match against Unistar Academy on Sunday will
be their third match in the history of the MTN FA Cup where they have scored
five (5) goals in their previous two matches.
Skyy FC has the
best defence in the Division One League (DOL) in zone two, having conceded just
two (2) goals in their last eight (8) matches.
However, the
team, coached by coach Abdul Malik Mohammed rank third poorest in offensive
record having scored only 7 goals in their last 8 matches. The team does not
look too clinical upfront but the likes of Ebenezer Mamatah, Emmanuel Eshun,
Benjamin Aboagye Dacosta, Francis Oteng are poised for action and may make
things much difficult for the home side on Sunday.
Meanwhile,
the team has gone unbeaten in their last five (5) matches both home and away
and this impressive record might leave Unistar Academy with hard nuts to crack
as the two face off at the Cape Coast sports stadium on Sunday.
