National Sports Authority (NSA) Director General, Peter Twumasi has revealed that the Baba Yara sports stadium is almost ready and Asante Kotoko will be able to return to their root in the next 21 days approximately.
The Baba Yara sports stadium has served as the traditional home grounds of Asante Kotoko for decades, but the Porcupine Warriors have been forced to adopt the Accra sports stadium as their home grounds since last season, due to the closure of the Baba Yara stadium for renovation purposes.
The renovation works were originally scheduled for completion in October last year, but the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has slowed the progress of work, pushing the completion date further.
In the last week of October last year, the NSA Board Chairman, Kojo Baah Agyemang told Kumased based Silver 98.3 FM in an interview, “I have engaged the contractor on site and he has assured the stadium should be ready by close of the year(2020)”.
In an interaction with Kumasi based Boss FM on Tuesday, NSA Director General, Peter Twumasi has confirmed that work is almost complete and Asante Kotoko will be able to return to their traditional home grounds by the end of this month, January, 2021.
“Asante Kotoko will return to Baba Yara Yara Stadium by the end of this month”, Professor Twumasi confirmed.
“The renovation work is progressing, with 90% of the works done. 40,500 chairs have been fixed, flood lights, brand new scoreboard and others all installed. The pitch works will start on Wednesday, January 6, 2021”, he added.
