Ghana premier league giants Asante Kotoko will play against Entente Sportive Sétifienne (E.S Setif) of Algeria in the 2020/2021 CAF Confederation following the draw held on Friday in Cairo, Egypt.
Asante Kotoko have been controversially kicked out of the Champions League competition after their match against Sudan’s Al Hilal Omdurman in the second leg of the last preliminary round was called off under suspicious circumstances of alleged covid-19 complications in the camp of the Ghanaian club. This was after Al Hilal had won the first leg by 1-0 in Accra on December 23 last year.
Asante Kotoko alleged that the results of their players’ covid-19 test had been tempered with and petitioned CAF for redress. While waiting for a public pronouncement by CAF on the matter and a response to Asante Kotoko, the Porcupine Warriors, according to CAF, forfeits the match to Al Hilal, making the Sudanese giants winners on a 2-0 scoreline over Asante Kotoko, pushing the Ghanaian side into the Confederation Cup.
On Friday, the official draw for the Confederation Cup preliminary play-offs was held and Asante Kotoko have been paired against Algeria’s E.S Setif.
The first leg will take place in Ghana on February 14, 2021 before Kotoko travels to Algeria for the second leg which has been scheduled for February 21.
