Maruani Barreto’s unbeaten start to life as Asante Kotoko manager is emphatically over after a shock 1-2 defeat to Medeama at the Len Clay Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Barreto, taking charge of his third home game since taking over the club, looked on course for three important points after Emmanuel Gyamfi’s early header put the Porcupines in front.
However, Prince Opoku Agyemang and Richard Boadu’s deflected shot cancelled the Reds’ lead and subsequently held on to win the game. Kotoko’s midfield was nonexistent in the first half as Medeama dominated the game and could easily have led by more than just the two goals but a resilient Razak Abalora denied the visitors on couple of times.
The Porcupines came back in the second half stronger but could not fetch the equalizer after making early changes.
The defeat means Kotoko’s 100% record ( two wins ) at the Len Clay stadium have been broken.
The win has taken Medeama to the top of the league with 36 points after 21 games. Kotoko trails them by a point.
