The FA Cup final was decided by a brilliant strike from Youri Tielemans, which saw fans return to Wembley and an epic VAR call late on.
With 21,000 fans cheering on both sides at Wembley, there was no shot on goal in the first half, but Tielemans was given much too much room after the break and fired a magnificent shot into the top corner.
In a game devoid of opportunities, Tielemans – the best player on the field – made the most of his. The ball dropped to the Belgian after Leicester closed down Chelsea’s defense. He had plenty of time and room to set himself up before unleashing an irresistible effort into Kepa Arrizabalaga’s net.
As the pressure rose in the final stages, Kasper Schmeichel made two outstanding saves to keep Chelsea at bay.
With just minutes left, Ben Chilwell believed he had equalized against his former club, but after a VAR examination, he was ruled offside, and the Foxes clung on to a famous victory.
As the final whistle blew, Leicester players dropped to their knees, and their supporters in the Wembley stands erupted in hysteria – and for one evening, the pandemic seemed to be a distant memory.
Chelsea will still finish the season on a high note, with a Champions League Final against Manchester City to look forward to, but the Blues are still fighting for a top-four Premier League finish, and Tuchel’s men have surely lost their form at the worst possible time.
