Premier League heavyweights Hearts of Oak have succeeded in turning around their season for the better, at least for now.
Samuel Boadu’s men, now lead the Premier League standings, ahead of the likes of Asante Kotoko who have a game against WAFA on Saturday. Interestingly, the team go top of the competition for the first time in over five years.
Hearts of Oak were up against Eleven Wonders on Friday afternoon. The Phobians headed into the game with just two points behind Asante Kotoko who were leading the park, albeit a game’s advantage. A victory was to propel the club on top of the league and Samuel Boadu’s men succeeded in bagging an all-important three points at the Ohene Ameyaw Park.
Hearts of Oak’s intent was clear in the first half, with the duo of Obeng Junior and Salifu Ibrahim combining to threaten the home team.
The effort from the team paid off ultimately when Obeng Junior netted the only goal of the afternoon, pouncing on Tetteh Nortey’s failed back pass to his goalkeeper. The victory saw the capital-based club claim the top spot in the Premier League, managing a point lead over Asante Kotoko who play tomorrow at home against WAFA.
Interestingly, this is the first time that the Rainbow Boys lead the Premier League standings for the first time in about five years.
