AS Roma’s Felix Afena-Gyan has been voted Italian Primavera One’s Most Valuable Player for last week after the Ghanaian teenager helped La Magica to two wins to keep them in the title race.
The 18-year-old has been in sensational form for the Stadio Tre Fontane side in the Italian youth football league since joining AS Roma in the second round of this season.
The nimble-footed goal poacher climbed off the bench in the 76th minute to score the 4th goal as AS Roma beat Cagliari 5-3 at home on Wednesday.
The Wenchi-born young prospect was on target again on Sunday, once again coming off the bench in the 56th minute to score the only goal in AS Roma’s 1-0 vital away win at Empoli.
Afena-Gyan’s sterling performance earned him a spot in the four-man MVP race, warding off competition from Antonis Siatounis of Sampdoria, Genoa’s Michele Besaggio and Alessio Rosa of Atalanta after the public votes conducted on the various social media platforms.
Afena-Gyan’s double last week pushes his goal tally to six in eleven games with two assists as he continues to be one of AS Roma’s key players in their hunt for the title.
With four games to end the season, AS Roma currently lie 3rd on the Primavera One table with 48 points, ahead of their next game against second-placed Sampdoria, who have 49 points and behind leaders
Inter Milan, who have 50 points.
