Former Asante Kotoko SC management member, Afrifa Yamoah Ponko has said that new Kotoko chief, Nana Yaw Amponsah is not fit to lead the Reds to greater height.
According to Ponko, Asante Kotoko is ‘bigger than’ Nana Yaw Amponsah.
His comments was in response to the Reds 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Hearts of Oak, which he said there was no way the Reds was going to beat the Phobians with the former GFA presidential aspirant in helms of affairs.
“How can Nana Yaw Amponsah beat Hearts of Oak?”
“He is riding at the back of the almighty Asante Kotoko but if he feels he is the Chief Executive Officer and so can lead Asante Kotoko to the promise land then he can’t.”
“Those running the club, how many of them were born and bred in Kumasi? Kotoko is a traditional club. Kotoko is too big for them(management) that’s how I see it.
“Kotoko is bigger than Nana Yaw Amponsah and his people. I said in an interview some time ago that Kotoko lack ‘local content’. “ he said in an interview with Happy FM
Nana Yaw Amponsah was appointed by the club’s Board of Directors in 2020, he penned a three year renewable contract with the objective of changing the club’s fortunes.
Asante Kotoko this season exited the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League then dropped to the second tier competition where they failed to make the group stage of the Confederation Cup after losing to ES Setif in the playoffs.
In the Ghana Premier League, the Porcupines are second on the league log with 56 points, 3 points adrift bitter rivals Hearts of Oak with three matches left to close the 2020/2021 term.
Meanwhile, Kotoko in the MTN FA Cup have made the round of 16 stage and are yet to know their opponent.
