Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice president, George Afriyie has expressed his disappointment on the FA ruling in banning division one league side Phar Rangers for 5 years.
Phar Rangers violated the division one league rules and regulations for writing to the FA that it has liquidated and withdrawn from all footballing activities in the country.
Phar Rangers later wrote back to the FA to rescind their decision but the FA feels they’ve violated Article 13 of the division one regulations.
Speaking on the ruling, George Afriyie who contested for the GFA presidency in 2019 said it is bad and wrong and is of the view Kurt Okraku wouldn’t have been the President of the FA if they had banned the directors and stakeholders of Dreams FC when they were banned.
“The GFA ruling on Phar Rangers is WRONG and BAD. Okraku Kurt wouldn’t have been an FA President if the GFA had banned the Board of Directors and the Shareholders of Dreams FC when they were banned” He told Pure FM.
“I have told Phar Rangers to appeal the Disciplinary Committee decision and I strongly believe that the decision would be overturned. How can you ban a shareholder without a charge”
“Can you ban Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll who’s the sole shareholder of Asante Kotoko?”
“The directors and shareholders of the club were not charged by the DC so why were they sactioned?
“This decision is wrong and bad. We shouldn’t punish shareholders who might not be involved in the day to day administration of the club.
“Let me ask, Asante Kotoko commits an offence similar to that of Phar Rangers, can you ban Otumfuo Osei Tutu who is the sole shareholder of the club?
“Because he appointed a board and they also appointed a management. Now when the club commits a similar offence, do you extend it to Otumfuo?
He continued:
“Fred Crenstil bought shares in Hearts of Oak and he’s not involved in the daily affairs of the club. If Akambi and the management commits an offence, do you punish Crenstil to the extent that he can’t be in football for years?
“It might be the GFA President does not even know anything on this decision by the DC, but this ruling can cast a negative image on the current administration concerning Nana Yaw Amponsah.
“It’s good to use the law but sometimes we must be mindful of some decisions we take as football persons.”
