Hearts of Oak on Sunday, July 11, 2021, became the champions of the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League season after going twelve seasons without a major trophy.
Hearts of Oak shared spoils with Liberty Professionals at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday in their matchday 33 games which ended 1-1. The Phobians have opened a 4-point lead at the summit of the league table with a game left to wind up the season.
Hearts have now moved to 61 points with second-placed Kotoko on 57 while there is only one round of games left to end the Premier League season.
However, Board Member of the club, Alhaji Akanbi attributed the success of the club to Board Chairman Togbe Afede.
“I must say that we ( Hearts of oak ) are very happy to have won the GPL after a very long time, this didn’t come by a fluke, it came as a matter of hard work from all bodies of the club especially the Board Chairman, Board, Management, technical team, playing body and most especially our fans we say Ayekoo,” he told Accra Based Hot FM.
“Togbe challenged us to stay focused even in the hard times of the club, at a point coaches left us in the middle of the league, at that stage it looked like the world was coming to an end but our club’s board chairman took it upon himself to wake the club up again with his motivational words to some of us, finally we are here, we are Champions and I will say Togbe Afede (14) won us the trophy,” he concluded.
