The African qualifying competition for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 continues, with 40 nations battling to reach the next round.

The opening two rounds of matches have produced a total of 83 goals, with the usual suspects having broken clear at the top of various groups.

Tunisia, Nigeria, Senegal, and surprise package Libya have won their opening two games and sit top of their groups.

Algeria, who extended their unbeaten run to 29 games lead Group A on four points, same with Ivory Coast, who stunned Cameroon on Monday night.

Two sides have played only one to date: Guinea and Morocco, whose meeting in Conakry was postponed.

Key points from the opening two weekends;
Egypt part ways with Hossam El-Badry

Egyptian Football Association dismissed Hossam El-Badry as Egypt’s national team head coach after just two years in charge.

El-Badry took over from Javier Aguirre, who was sacked following the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

Algeria march on

The Desert Foxes continued with their impressive run, which now stands at 29 unbeaten games, and were the highest-scorers with nine goals over the two qualifying rounds.

No point

Djibouti, Mauritania, Madagascar, Sudan, Angola, and Togo failed to pick up a single point, leaving their qualification hopes hanging by a thread.

Elephants too strong from Lions

The highlight match of the round was Ivory Coast playing Cameroon and it was the Elephants who tamed the Lions with Sebastien Haller scoring a brace.
