Asante Kotoko are preparing for their 2021-22 season without their captain Felix Annan after 10 years while Abdul Ganiyu is preparing for his fourth season at the club, and for the defender, this will be a special campaign as he will be the club’s captain.
Ganiyu was third to Annan and Gyamfi and now, he would lead the team for the next football season.
The two-time African Champions recently parted ways with their captain after 10-years of service.
However, according to Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, the technical team have decided to name Ganiyu as the new captain despite deputy skipper Emmanuel Gyamfi presence at the club.
It is believed the Black Stars defender has agreed to extend his contract with the club.
According to reports, Ganiyu and his representatives have agreed to renew the contract with Gh¢10,000.00 as monthly salary.
It is believed that the former Karela United defender was demanding for a salary of Gh¢15,000.00 without an enticement fee but after negotiations with the management of the club, has agreed to the Gh¢10,000.00 proposal from Kotoko.
Ganiyu was impressive for Asante Kotoko last season despite the team’s failure to win the Ghana Premier league, placing second on the league log.
His impressive form last season gained him a call-up to the Black Stars on two separate assignments, featuring in AFCON qualifying game against South Africa in Johannesburg.
Abdul Ganiyu joined Asante Kotoko on a three-year deal in 2018 from fellow premiership outfit Karela United after a scintillating form that year.
