Officials and Players of the national teams of Liberia and Cape Verde have started arriving in Ghana ahead of Thursday’s World Cup Africa Group C Qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium. FIFA moved the match to Ghana instead of Freetown whose Stadium was not approved as the original hosts. Accra Sports Stadium is hosting the match scheduled for Thursday, with hosts Liberia poised to snatch the 3 points and catch up with Nigeria, who leads the group with 6 points.
Liberia is second on 3 points following an away win over the Central Africa Republic, while Cape Verde and the Central African Republic have a point each.
The players and officials started arriving at the weekend with Liberia taking the lead as most members of their contingent are already in Accra, arriving from various parts of the World, with the Sports Minister and FA delegation leading the team. Cape Verde is also leaving no stone unturned and is already preparing for the match, with training schedules in Accra.
The Match Commissioner from Sierra Leone Prince Saquee is already in Ghana while the referees for the match are expected to arrive in Accra tomorrow .
Nigeria and the Central Africa Republic will also square off in the other match of the group, as all the sides later play themselves again In a return match.
The Black Stars of Ghana are meanwhile hosting their counterparts from Zimbabwe in Cape Coast, which paved the way for the Accra Sports Stadium to be available for the “no man’s land” match.
