The Club World Cup is presently scheduled to take place from December 9 to 19, but FIFA is poised to postpone the tournament until 2022, according to the Daily Mirror.
Chelsea were scheduled to miss three Premier League games in December to compete in the Club World Cup, but due to the postponement, they are set to go on as planned.
At a Council meeting on October 20, FIFA’s governing body will choose an alternate host.
South Africa and Qatar have indicated interest in hosting the tournament, but Brazil has withdrawn out after initially expressing interest.
Chelsea’s sole significant trophy is the Club World Cup, which they have yet to win. They were defeated by Corinthians in the Club World Cup final after winning the Champions League for the first time in 2012.
The most recent English team to win the competition was Liverpool, who did so in 2019. After making it through the semi-finals, the Reds required extra time to defeat Flamengo in the final.
Bayern Munich is the current Club World Cup champion after beating Mexican team Tigres in front of a small crowd in Qatar in February.
