Hearts of Oak’s communication director, Opare Addo has said Caleb Amankwaa is in good condition for CAF Champions League(CAFCL) return leg against Wydad Athletic Club (WAC) but the club awaits final approval from the doctors regarding Raddy Ovouka’s fitness.
Amankwaa sustained an injury during CAFCL first preliminary round win over Kamsar.
Although, the makeshift defensive midfielder looked okay for last Sunday’s game against WAC, he was an unused substitute.
Ovouka, on the other hand, picked up an injury against Kamsar just like Caleb but he recovered in time to feature against WAC.
Unfortunately, the Congolese could not last long as he was forced off during the first half of the match that ended 1-0 in favour of Hearts.
“We didn’t want to risk Caleb. He could have played but we didn’t want to risk him because football is a contact game and any contact would aggravate the injury. So that is why the coach and the medical team decided to rest him. Even though he could have played that is why he was on the bench. Because we could have put him in during difficult moments of the game.” Opare told Asempa FM
“Then Raddy Ovouka. Right after the Kamsar game we made it clear to the World that Raddy Ovouka has been given sometime off. Because he had a knee problem. They (doctors) treated him and made sure he had rest. Then he came and play the game (against WAC). Then he received a knock not one not two…Doctor Quartey and his team have been working very well on him and I can tell you Raddy is doing well. We are only waiting for the final approval before the game on Sunday.”
Hearts of Oak will travel to Morocco on Thursday with the deciding leg set at 6PM Ghana time on October 24.
