The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) in collaboration with ex-Black Queens players is organizing the second edition of its testimonial match dubbed the ‘The Battle of the Queens’ which is scheduled to come off on Saturday, 4th December 2021; 3:00 pm at the Bantama Kookoase Astroturf in Kumasi.
The annual game which is aimed at acknowledging the achievements of the ex-national team players over the years and to encourage the girl child to develop an interest in football is attracting interest from stakeholders of football. It’s also meant to promote women’s football ahead of the 2021-2023 league season.
Several top Guests from the Media, ex footballers and current Black Queens players are expected to grace the occasion.
PFAG board member, Gifty Appiah states the annual testimonial match is here to stay.
“Battle of the Queens is here to stay because it is a beautiful platform to celebrate our retired players as well as the active players getting a rare chance to interact with their idols. It’s a laudable initiative and must be commended.”
Elizabeth Addo, who is also a board member added that “ “I am excited about this game because it allows our former legends to come together once more to showcase their talents whilst allowing the fans to watch these legends.”
“I believe this game will give the upcoming 2020-2021 women’s premier league the needed publicity and promotion it deserves.This is our little way of giving back to the very league that made us who we are today.”-she added.
The 2021/2022 Women’s Premier League (WPL) is scheduled to kick off on the weekend of Friday, December 17 to 20, 2021 across the country.
The first round of the league will end on Sunday, February 20, 2022 while the second round commences on the weekend of March 4-6, 2022.
