Charles Kwabena Akonnor, former Black Stars coach is worried about how most of the African players were late for camp for preparations ahead of the upcoming African Cup of Nations.
Ghana planned that all the players will be in Qatar for preparations at least two weeks before the kickoff but not all the contingent were able to report early since FIFA ordered CAF for players’ arrival.
Out of Ghana’s 28-man squad for the tournament three will join in Cameroon (Kamaldeen Sulemana, Philemon Baffour, and Kudus Mohammed).
Currently, Kudus Mohammed is with Ajax Amsterdam for mid-season preparations in Portugal.
In Akonnor’s opinion about such situations the Ghanaian trainer explained “Is always been worried for a long time, it is disturbing how teams get prepared not just Ghana. COVID issues have made things disorganized so obviously, you will be worried. No other coach will be happy if you are going to such a tournament and a few days later some of the players will join. You’d have wished that they will all be on board and move even for the team’s spirit so is not something good but let see what happens. I strongly believe that if things are done properly, well organized and the players are also there willing to show up their best we will go far”. CK told Happy FM.
Ghana will play alongside Morocco, Gabon, and Comoros Island in Group C of the tournament.
