Accra Hearts of Oak captain Fatawu Mohammed is set to make joyous return to the field from a 14-day suspension handed him by the club for defying contractual terms.
The experience right back was slapped with a two weeks suspension from the senior team by the club for what the club described as “violating the terms of his contract”, and was relegated to train with the club’s Youth team (Auroras) during the period of the suspension.
Accra Hearts of Oak announced the suspension of their long serving captain on January 18, saying, the details of the implications of the suspension had been explained to the player.
“We wish to inform fans of the club and the general public that captain – Fatawu Mohammed has been suspended from the senior team for 2 weeks for violating the terms of his contract”, Hearts of Oak announced via the club’s official social media account.
“During the period of the suspension, he will be required to train with the junior team.”, the statement explained.
Accra Hearts of Oak will host King Faisal in Match Day 15 of the ongoing premier league season at the Accra sports stadium on Sunday, and coach Samuel Boadu’s side will once again be without their substantive captain, Fatawu.
The game against King Faisal with be the last game Fatawu will miss as a result of his suspension, and will be joining the senior team as his suspension will end by 1st February, 2022.
Hearts of Oak’s next league match will be against city rivals Accra Great Olympics on February 6 in Accra, and captain Fatawu Mohammed will be available for selection for that game should Boadu decide to hand him position as a regular and key member of the squad.
Centre back Mohammed Alhassan has been leading Accra Hearts of Oak on the interim as captain in the absence of Fatawu.
